Metallic Epoxy Flooring in Metro Detroit
Hand-manipulated metallic pigment systems over commercial diamond-ground concrete — no two floors ever pour the same. Sealed with the same UV-stable polyaspartic topcoat behind every Hardcore install, built for a 15-20+ year lifespan across Wayne, Washtenaw, and Oakland counties.
The Same Diamond-Ground Foundation, a Completely Different Finish
Metallic epoxy is Hardcore Epoxy Flooring's hand-applied, pigment-movement floor system — mica-based metallic pigments folded into 100% solids epoxy and manipulated while wet to create cells, veins, and dimensional movement no flake or solid-color floor can produce. Every install starts with the same commercial diamond grinding as our other systems and finishes with the same UV-stable polyaspartic topcoat, applied personally by owner Spirro Grias.
A metallic floor is not a different product bolted onto our normal process — it's the same multi-coat system (primer, pigmented base, decorative layer, polyaspartic clear coat) with the decorative layer swapped from flake broadcast to hand-manipulated pigment. That matters because the prep standard doesn't change: acid-etched concrete telegraphs every flaw straight through a metallic pour, while a properly diamond-ground slab gives the pigment a flat, mechanically-bonded surface to move across.
Because the pigment is worked by hand — not sprayed from a kit or rolled flat — no two metallic floors land the same way. Humidity, working time, and how the epoxy is manipulated while it's curing all shape the final pattern. We walk through color and movement direction with every client before the pour, but the result is genuinely one of a kind, not a marketing line.
DIY Metallic Kits vs a Diamond-Ground Metallic System
Metallic kits are everywhere online — and they're also the fastest way to end up with a muddy, uneven floor. Here's the difference 20+ years of pouring metallic across Metro Detroit has shown us.
| Factor | DIY Metallic Kit | Hardcore Metallic System |
|---|---|---|
| Concrete prep | Acid etch or no prep at all | Commercial diamond grinding — true mechanical bond |
| Pigment application | Rolled or poured flat, minimal working time | Hand-manipulated while wet for cells, veins, movement |
| Slab flaws | Show straight through an unprepped surface | Ground flat and level before pigment goes down |
| Topcoat | Often a thin hardware-store polyurethane | UV-stable polyaspartic — the same clear coat on every Hardcore floor |
| Who applies it | Homeowner, first attempt | Spirro Grias, personally, 20+ years of pours |
| Result if the pour goes wrong | Re-grind and start over at your own expense | Diamond-ground foundation gives the pigment room to move correctly the first time |
Watch a Metallic Pour
Metallic epoxy is a hands-on process — the pigment has to be worked while the epoxy is still open. Here's a look at Hardcore's metallic system going down.
Metallic Epoxy Features & Benefits
Commercial Diamond Grinding
Every metallic job starts with the same mechanical-bond prep as our garage and commercial systems — never acid etching.
Hand-Manipulated Movement
Pigments are worked while wet with brushes, squeegees, and forced air — no two floors pour the same.
UV-Stable Polyaspartic Topcoat
The same clear coat protecting every Hardcore install — resists yellowing, hot tire pickup, and chemical staining.
Seamless, Non-Porous Surface
No grout lines, no seams — easy to clean and resistant to stains, oil, and moisture.
Garage, Basement & Commercial
The same metallic system installs across every space we serve, including moisture-checked basement slabs.
Owner-Applied
Spirro Grias personally handles metallic pours — this is a skill-dependent process, not a crew job.
